"Old Roads", a work written by me for NYC-based viol ensemble Parthenia, will be debuted by them on Saturday, October 22, at 8pm, at Picture Ray Studios, 245 West 18th Street (between 7th and 8th Avenues), as part of their season concert "Night Visions". The concert will also feature works by other contemporary composers for viols, including real-time visual projection for one work. Full details are available at this link.
1.26.10"Annie", a work for 3 dancers by Lauren Hale Dance, for which I composed the score, will have 2 more performances as part of the Cool New York 2010 Dance Festival. Performances are Friday, January 29 at 9:00 PM and Sunday, January 31 at 6:00 PM, at the John Ryan Theater located at 25 Jay Street in Brooklyn, NY. 11.7.09I've uploaded 2 additional short tracks, "Mashomack" and "Flotsam(Flatland)", one a remix of elements from "Flatland", the other a track using electronically processed viol sounds (courtesy of Ros Morley of Parthenia, who played the sample material).
11.2.09I completed the score for another dance piece, "Myopia/Youropia", a 13-minute work for 2 dancers, by Amy Baumgarten Dance.
10.26.09I completed the score for "Annie", a 10-minute work for 3 dancers by Lauren Hale Dance . The NYC premiere is at Dixon Place on 12.14.09 at 8pm. There will also be a performance in Garrison, NY on 11.21.09 at 2pm, at the Philipstown Depot Theatre.
10.20.09I contributed music and sound to "Flatland", an evening-length dance work for 3 dancers, by Vanessa Justice , which premiered at Joyce Soho in NYC from 10/15-18. It's a multi-layered dance work, incorporating sound, music, lighting, video, and other elements.
September 2009Much work is underway on a variety of pieces for choreographers. Writing for dance is new for me, but I'm enjoying the collaborative aspects and the cyclical development process. Chorale Labyrinth is being used as the basis for a choreography workshop by Nicole Philippidis (of 277danceproject.com).
Summer 2009Field recording and composition, including several great (but rainy!) weeks on Shelter Island at the far eastern end of Long Island's North Fork.
5.9.09I participated in a workshop organized by Vita and Ishmael Wallace, of the Orfeo Duo, bringing composers and musicians together to talk about and read through some music. It was a great time, and included music by composers Todd Tarantino, Elizabeth Adams, and David Loeb.
12.04.08A new piece for for NYC-based viol ensemble Parthenia has just been completed. If all goes well, I hope it will be performed in Fall 2009/Spring 2010.

3.17.07Another performance of "Chorale Labyrinth" was given by Parthenia, as part of their "Nuova Musica" concert, at Picture Ray Studio in NYC, on March 14, 2007. The concert featured new works for viols, including beautiful pieces by Phil Kline and Anthony Piccolo.
2.15.06The Midtown Concerts series included a performance of "Chorale Labyrinth" by Parthenia. I was honored to share the bill with Scheidt, John Bull, and Peter Philips!
